AIM UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:

Before you begin:

1. Verify at least one file version number listed on the Meter Updates page for AIM is of a higher version than the AIM Version, Filesystem or Firmware versions found in the AIM Config screen. If they are the same, no upgrade is necessary.

PC Procedures:

1. Insert the memory stick (supplied with the meter) into a USB port on the PC.
2. Delete all files from the memory stick.
3. Go to satinstalltraining.com and click on the “meter updates” tab.
4. Right-click on the “Update AIM” link and save the zip file to the root directory of the memory stick. Use your company login and password when prompted.
5. Double-click on the zip file to open, then extract all the files to the root directory of the memory stick. IMPORTANT: Make sure the files are extracted to the root directory and not extracted into another folder. Uncheck the “Use Folder Names” option if displayed.
6. Remove memory stick from computer.

Meter Procedures:

1. Power on the AIM meter.
2. Press CONFIG > Firmware Upgrade.
3. Insert memory stick into the USB port on the AIM meter.
4. Press “OK”.
5. This upgrade process can take up to a few minutes to complete.
6. When the upgrade is complete, press OK to reboot.
7. The AIM meter will then upgrade and reboot. (If AIM does not power back up, press the power button).
8. Verify that the AIM meter received the new code.

TROUBLESHOOTING AIM ISSUES:

“AIM HAS DETECTED A CRASH” error

• Reboot meter
• If that doesn’t work – Follow "AIM Recovery Instructions" below

“ENCRYPTED SCRIPTS ARCHIVE NOT FOUND” error

• Be sure that the unzipped files are in the root directory of the USB stick and not in any subfolders (some unzipping applications create a separate folder that it unzips to)
• Sometimes the USB Drive doesn’t “seat” well in the port and basically you just need to remove and re-insert the drive and try it again- take care not to move or jostle the meter during the update process
• Although Its strongly recommended to use the USB drive that comes with the meter for updates you may need to try another USB drive

AIM Recovery Instructions

1. Recovery files are included with the firmware update link
2. Make sure USB thumb drive has the latest upgrade installation files copied.  This includes:
   1. Application_Upgrade folder
   2. Database_Upgrade folder
   3. scripts.tar.en file
   4. aim_recovery_kernel
3. Make sure that the recovery mode file is also copied to the USB thumb drive.  This file is labeled aim_recovery_kernel. Make sure all files are in the root directory of the USB drive (not in a subfolder)
4. Insert the thumb drive into the AIM.
5. Make sure the AIM is off.
6. Perform the 4-button press (1-3-Back-Fn simultaneously) and press the POWER button.
7. The AIM will make a beep.
8. Release the 4-buttons.
9. The AIM should start of series of beeps (beeping every ~500 ms.)
10. A screen will be displayed asking the user to perform the installation.  Press OK to continue.
11. A screen will be displayed showing the progress of the installation.
12. Once the installation is complete, press OK to restart the AIM.  Don’t remove the thumb drive yet.
13. Once the AIM restarts, confirm the version of the AIM software by selecting Config| Firmware Versions.
14. Remove thumb drive.

Notes

If using a brand new meter, it is necessary to update both the “application and database”.  Although there isn’t any harm in updating them separately, the instructions on the release notes are correct in that the procedure is to unzip the file then transfer all 4 files to the root directory of a USB drive, then navigate to the ”update firmware” option on the meter- or begin the recovery process if experiencing a crash.  Repeat the process a couple of times if the meter is unresponsive.
